Nationally known keynote and featured speakers will appear each day of the Institute, providing a global perspective to many key issues for educators.
David Warlick’s unique voice and message combines a wide range of experiences, both in and outside the education arena. He worked for nearly ten years as a middle school social studies, math, and science teacher, while writing award-winning instructional software and introducing hundreds of teachers to the educational potentials of desktop computers. David then became the Director of Technology and then on to the North Carolina State Department of Public Instruction where he served as a technology integration consultant. Since 1995, Mr. Warlick has owned and is principal consultant of The Landmark Project, a professional development and web design firm in Raleigh, NC. David has spoken at conferences and delivered workshops for educators in nearly every state of the U.S. and many other countries. David Warlick is an innovator and leader in the field of educational technology and a prolific programmer, writing some of the most popular interactive web tools for teachers on the Internet—most of them free. He created and maintains the second oldest continuing online project, Global Grocery List, and writes for publications that include Technology & Learning Magazine, ALA’s KnowledgeQuest, Education World, and CUE Online. He has written two books, Raw Materials for the Mind: 3rd Edition, and Redefining Literacy for the 21st Century (to be released by Linworth Publishing in March 2004).
Showing even more new Internet tools and strategies with each visit, Doug Adams is an Educational Technology Specialist at the High Plains Regional Technology in Education Consortium (HPR*TEC). He has six years of experience in the higher education classroom, teaching classes in human learning and educational technology. His work at HPR*TEC involves helping educators across the country integrate technology into their classrooms. Doug is the editor of Edlines, a biweekly, online newsletter highlighting educational technology news.
Rem Jackson is Vice-President of Professional Development and a Founder of Classroom Connect. His current responsibilities include the production of Classroom Connect’s national conferences and professional development training and consulting. Previously he managed the company’s customer service,
operations, sales, telemarketing, corporate website development, and the
development An entertaining and informative presenter, Rem speaks to thousands of educators every year on Internet-related topics at national and regional conferences. He pioneered the Classroom Connect Seminar Series, which has been delivered to educators both in the United States and internationally. In addition, he developed the “Becoming an Internet Trainer” seminar. He has personally trained over 15,000 educators. He speaks frequently at in-service programs and delivers conference keynote addresses where his ability to guide participants through complex technical issues has helped teachers, administrators, media specialists, technology coordinators and other educators more easily integrate the Internet into their curriculum.
Sergeant Scott Christensen, a 20 year veteran of the Nebraska State Patrol, will serve as an expert on Internet Safety for the Institute. During his services he has served in the capacity of Road Trooper, Drug Investigator and Criminal Intelligence Officer. He is currently the Coordinator of the NE State Patrol Computer Crimes/Internet Crimes Against Children Unit. Sgt. Christensen is active on a national level as Chairman of the National Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Board, a member of the Nebraska Cyber Crimes Task Force, and as a member of the National Institute of Standards and Technologies, Technical Working Group: Investigative Uses of Technology: Devices, Tools, and Techniques. Sergeant Christensen serves as one of three AMBER Alert verification officers for the Nebraska AMBER program and is a Member of the Nebraska Critical Incident Management team as well as other civic organizations.
Ladd Skelly has almost twenty years of experience integrating and managing technology in the educational environment while providing staff development opportunities for teachers, parents, and administrators. He has gained these experiences as a high-tech teacher, a school technology facilitator, a district trainer, and as a district technology administrator. His areas of expertise range from Web authoring to Internet integration. He has presented at the National Educational Computer Conference, many large state conferences nationwide, and the Connected Classroom Conferences. As a Learning Specialist for Classroom Connect, Ladd is currently developing and delivering onsite and Web conferencing courses and workshops for educators in the curriculum integration of the Internet.
